Medium - Raku Ceramic Copper Matt finish
Size - W-14cm x H-33cm
Chris has been throwing and firing pots for over 40 years. Chris's raku pots were featured in the first series of the 'Great Potter Throwdown'.
Raku is rapidly fired to around 1,000c, its then taken from the kiln whilst still red hot and held in the air until it starts to craze, it is placed into wood shavings and sawdust: these instantly combust and this reduction draws the metal in the glaze up to the surface creating the rich iridescent lustre seen on Chris's turquoise pots, burying the posts in burning sawdust is also what gives that distinctive wood smoke smell which dissipates over time.
The chance occurrence of raku means that no two pieces are the same.
Raku pots are low fired so care is needed handling them.
